Aerial Crowd Monitoring at Electric Avenue Festival 2026

Aorangi Aerials was proud to support aerial crowd monitoring operations at the Electric Avenue Festival in Christchurch. With over 90,000 attendees, the event required a high level of situational awareness, and our team was able to provide a true “eye in the sky” to support event control in seeing the bigger picture. 

Operating the DJI Matrice 300 RTK paired with the DJI Zenmuse H20T, we deployed a fully integrated aerial monitoring solution. Our setup included dedicated pilots, payload operators, and trained visual observers to ensure safe and effective operations throughout the event. 

Using a tethered drone system, we were able to maintain continuous flight for the duration of the festival-delivering uninterrupted live video feeds directly to the event control room. This allowed security, emergency services, and event organisers to make informed decisions in real time. 

As the sun set, the H20T’s thermal imaging capabilities became a critical asset. Combined with our night-rated pilots and Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand Part 102 operational certification, we were able to continue providing clear, actionable aerial insights well into the night. 

This deployment highlights the growing role of enterprise drone technology in enhancing public safety and operational awareness at large-scale events.
